#FOMO Harry Potter- 12 Magical Places to visit

Updated: May 20, 2020

The World of Harry Potter is no longer just something to watch or read about. Here's how to become a part of it.

I don't know about you, but whenever I am sad, tired or fed up with the muggle world, I go back to reading or watching about The Boy Who Lived. But as I am pretty certain a confused owl failed to deliver my Hogwarts acceptance letter when I was 11, I decided reading about the Wizarding World is simply not enough. I needed the actual experience! Luckily there are a number of magic places to be visited. See my list below:

1. The Making of Harry Potter - Warner Bros Studio Tour

An amazing tour that will let you finally walk your Diagon Alley walk, step into The Great Hall and have that butter beer (which tastes exactly as it should!)

And of course have that ride you wanted for a while :)

I have done this tour twice and would easily do it again!

2. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child - Parts One and Two

A visually breath-taking spin-off of the favorite story set nineteen years after the Battle of Hogwarts. You can see parts one and two on the same day or different days to extend the magical experience.

Trouble is tickets are really hard to get but if you manage you are in for a lot of un-muggle fun!

3. Platform 9 3/4

It is right there at King's Cross Stating between platforms 9 and 10 as it should be!

Be careful when rushing through that wall and rather visit the small Harry Potter themed shop next to it to make sure you are not missing your wand or any of your books for the year :)

4. Primark- Harry Potter Collection

If you are looking for a place to spend your spare galleons, worry not! Primark London launched an official Harry Potter collection in 2017 to hour the 20th anniversary of the first release of J.K Rowling's series.

You can get lovely themed pyjamas, jumpers and socks there. Needless to say, I've got loads! :)

5. Harry Potter London Walk

Once in London, you can take a guided tour that will take you through some famous filming locations in the capital.

If you decide you don't need a guide and prefer to explore on your own, make sure you visit Charing Cross Road, which may or may not remind you of a certain street Hagrid took Harry to all those years ago.

6. School of Witchcraft and Wizardry - Enigma Quests

This is an exciting escape room that will allow you to graduate from the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and finally get your hands on the precious diploma! (Not part of the Wizarding World franchise)

7. The Cauldron- Magic Theme Bar (yet to do!)

Not an official Harry Potter experience, but pretty magical by the sound of it!

You can visit the Cauldron in London or a few other cities and take part in a potion making class, which looks truly spectacular and is certainly on my list.

Rest of the UK

8. Edinburgh - The Elephant House

The cafe labels itself as "The birthplace of Harry Potter" as Joanne Rowling wrote a lot of the first Harry Potter book there.

As a result, today you can see lots of Thank you noted on the toilet walls of said cafe. A bit unusual, but yet very touching!

9. Oxford Tour

I have not done an official Harry Potter Tour in Oxford, but the place is very magical and a lot of Hogwards shots were unsurprisingly taken over there.

There's an official Oxford Harry Potter page that can direct you specific film locations.

10. The Jacobite Steam Train (yet to do!)

A journey on the Jacobsite steam train will let you see the route to Hogwarts with your own eyes and undoubtedly take stunning photos of the Harry Potter Bridge. Definitely on my list!

The United States

11. Universal Studios - The Wizarding World of Harry Potter (Florida and California)

I visited the one in California and frankly I did not want to leave. Going there you enter a real-life version of Hogsmeade with lots of streets, shops and pubs!

You can also refresh yourself with a bottle of pumpkin juice or a butter beer before you continue your unforgettable walk.

Fancy dress party

In 2020 spirit, while not allowed to travel and explore, we can bring Hogwarts to our homes with a nice themed family night. Some costume ideas below:

And of course after you have done all is you will absolutely deserve to receive your..

Hogwarts acceptance letter
